Interieur Biennale 2012, Kortrijk

Inside of Mobile is a new project gallery for contemporary design and research. During the Kortrijk

Interieur Biennale 2012 the gallery will be launched via an 'Introductory' exhibition. This presentation will

introduce the audience with numerous possibilities and different developments within the design field. As

a prologue, the exhibition will focus on the diversity of techniques, shapes, materials and concepts used

in contemporary design.

The Introductory presentation takes place from 20 to 28 October 2012 at Dam 2 (Buda Island Gallery) in

Kortrijk Belgium. The presentation will include works by:

Johanneke van Helden, Daphna Laurens, Lotty Lindeman & Wouter Scheublin, Max Lipsey,

Mieke Meijer, Dennis Parren, Karmen Saat, Dik Scheepers, Pascal Smelik, Rick Tegelaar, Frederike

Top, Jetske Visser and Jeroen Wand.

Personal Content.

I got invited by Matylda Krzykowski to show new work at Art Depot Basel.

She was working together with photographer Christoph Sagel. They travelled

around to take photos from 12 different designers and their new work mixed

together with personnel content. Below you find the shot they took of me.

Disposition

Maurice Mentjens got invited for a solo exhibition at Gallery Dis, but

Maurice instead proposed a group exhibition with designers of his choice.

He then asked Jean-Pierre Zoetbrood as curator to make the exhibition.

When you are in Maastricht you might want to take a look.

Designers in Residence

Five selected design duos from around the region will spend 14 hours shut

in the exhibition, experimenting with new uses of the machines, materials

and technologies. The results of these experiments will be on display

during the exhibition. from Saturday 11.00 to Sunday 18.00

Bodyreactor. Mod-2.

BODYREACTOR is developed as part of SEAD (Space Ecologies Art and Design),

a master project initiated by Angelo Vermeulen and Tine Holvoet.  

In BODYREACTOR Vermeulen and Holvoet introduce theatre and performance

students to the complexity of human corporeality in outer space, and invite

them to explore the ideas within their personal creative practices.

Together with Marco iannicelli I build this spaceship, Mod-2, to be used

during the workshop. The spaceship can be taken apart to form tables,

chairs and bed’s.

UnPølished.

You are invited to come and see Toegepast 16 where I will present my new

work UnPølished.

Mad Shop

Together with Noortje De la haye, Gilberte Claes, Roos De Krom,

Mieke Dierckx, Sofie Hermans, Linde Hermans, Lore Langendries,

Fabio Lorefice, Katrien Matthys, Joeri Reynaert, Jihyun Ryou,  

Caro Van den hole, Karen Wuytens, Jill Ryckaert en Sofie Boons, Creative

Drive is opening the pop-up store Mad Shop at C-Mine Genk. If you are

looking for a nice product or some jewelry this might the place to be.

Talente 2011 - 2

Last Saturday the award ceremony of Talente 2011 was held and now I am one of the

proud owners of that price. The jury rapport says the following:

Die unterschiedlichen Einzelformen beruhen auf einer einzigen Form, die veränderbar

und variierbar ist. Dik Scheepers verweist hierdurch auf die Vielfalt in der

Grundform und auf den Produktionsvorgang. Dabei unterscheiden sich alle Einzelteile

voneinander, sie es in der Art der Gussnähte, dem Winkel der Wandungen, Kontur oder

Proportion.Dik Scheepers stellt ein ungewöhnliches Tafelgeschirr vor, das mit den

Fragen von industrieller und handwerklicher Produktion, von Einzelstück und Typus,

von Individualität und Gleichförmigkeitarbeitet.

Talente 2011

After graduation together with 94 other jewelery and product designers I

got selected to show my pieces during Talente 2011 at the Internationale

Handwerksmesse in München. This is what the organization has to say about

it.

TALENTE is an international competition for young craftsmen and women in

design and technology. This special show reflects the ideas of young people

in the context of an experimental approach to materials and craft

techniques. Around 95 entries are exhibited in 2011 and the best are

awarded the highly sought-after TALENTE prize.

Studio WOW/ Passagen

Studio WOW invited me together with Marta Pieczonko, Maria Volokhova,

Alexandra Boum, Roundbau and Komunal to show our work at their shop during

Passagen 2011 in Köln. You can find it at  Rathenauplatz 7, 50674 Köln

Passagen is a week packed with design and will be held all over town where

international designers and manufacturers will show their stuff. If you

enjoy design it is worth-it to come and check it out.

Miss Rosy View

Is a Pop-up store in Leiden organized by Eva Schreuder. She invited

designers to send in work to be sold at the store. Her idea is to make

a shop where you have a little corner where you can eat and drink and

have a mixture of products which will make you smile and show the

beautiful side of live. I decided to send in some cups which a made

during my research for my graduation.These ones are made with a flexible

mold. So when you are in the area, come and have a look.

You Are Here.

From 7 December at the concept store You Are Here in Eindhoven some pieces

from my work Pieces of Pi will be sold. Together with other designers we will

decorate a 10 meter long table with our tableware for Christmas, making nice settings

for two.

Heavy Light Weight Table

At the Design auction held in Maastricht, Marco iannicelli and I presented a new

product we made togehter. A table made out of reinforced concrete with wooden legs

cutting right trough. And with a 4 cm thin tabletop it just looks lighter then it is.

Sunday 21 of November one of my Pieces of π will be sold during a auction

at D-day at the Timmerfabriek Maastricht, where about 45 designers will be

participating. Also, together with Marco iannicelli, we will be showing a

new table made from concrete and wood. Everybody is invited to come, to

see and to join the auction. For those who wish to see more. Every

designer will have their own stand where they sell their products.

So come and have look starting at 10 o’clock.

Dutch Design Week

After a good show in Dordrecht it is now time for the coming Dutch Design Week.

Together with other academy’s from the Netherlands, Academie Beeldende Kunsten

Maastricht is presenting ‘Design your future’ at the Building at Strijp-S, showing a

selection from their graduates of 2010.

Hardware 2010

After a nice holiday it is time to start up work again. Gallery Intermezzo

is organising a exhibition 'Hardware 2010' wich will show a selection of

products from different graduates from different art academies. My name is

also on the list, so I like to take the opportunity to invite you all to

come and have a look.

Pieces of Π

Last Wednesday I graduated at ABK Maastricht. The show following was great, nice

weather and lots of people visiting. Down below you can read where I have been

working on.

I do not think it is necessary to make the perfect mold. I accept the mistakes, which

are normally not wanted.These mistakes become a characteristic of the product and

tell a lot about it’s processing. They make the product even more beautiful.

Production.

It has been a while since the last time, but a have kept myself busy. After the last

go no go I really made some good progress in producing ceramics. Although, as you can

see, it doesn’t turn out so well every time. With 3 more weeks to go until the

graduation show I want to have production running at full speed so I will have

enough to show for.

Decisions

The first go or no go is coming soon, so time has come to make a first decision. 

Experiments gave some good and interesting results and it was a lot of fun to do. I

felt like a child in a zoo, impatient to wait to see what else would come. Now a have

to take a good look at the results and try to make it mine all together.

Experiment

After a month of playing I’m still puzzled which way to follow. 

Every single way seems to lead me in to a jungle of possibilities. Here you see the

stuff you also find in baby dipers and such, covered up in clay powder.

This picture shows the end to one road. Time to go in opposite direction.

Final year

Our final year at ABKM is more than halfway and every day is one day closer

to the graduation show at the Timmerfabriek in Maastricht. So I like to take

the opportunity to invite you all to this show which will be held on the 1^st

of July until the 4^th of July. If all goes well I will present my work.

If you like to know what keeps me busy, and what I’m working on. I’ll keep a

small blog telling about what I’m doing and what progress I have made.

For now I can say that my final consist out of two parts. One part has to do

with research into ceramics and how ceramics can be produced and the second part

will be a form of social design.
